Amplifying Voices Through Creativity: A Collaboration for Change
In today’s politically charged world, art and music have become vital tools for expression, reflection, and activism. A unique project, led by a group of diverse artists, aims to engage communities in democratic processes through creativity, combining politics with musical expression to inspire civic engagement. Overseen by Alexis, and supported by a talented team of creatives including Jack, Autum, Ally, and Henry, this project brings forward a fresh, dynamic perspective on the power of art as a political tool.
Alexis: Building a Foundation for Political Engagement
As the overseer of the project, Alexis works closely with Executive Director Arekia Bennett-Scott to transform the world of politics into something approachable and engaging through creativity. She envisions a future where democracy and art are intertwined, with artists at the forefront of encouraging people to take democracy more seriously.
However, Alexis admits the journey hasn’t been easy. “There was no blueprint or guide for what we’re doing,” she reflects. “The biggest challenge was finding people who mesh well and could help push the project forward.” Despite these challenges, she remains committed to her goal—giving artists a voice and using their creativity to shed light on important political issues.
Alexis sees the project as an opportunity to showcase innovative and fresh content, pushing the boundaries of creativity to get people interested in voting. Whether it’s through compelling visuals, inspiring songs, or thought-provoking information, Alexis wants to encourage people to engage with democracy in new, meaningful ways.
Jack: A Journey From Spirituality to Activism
For Jack, this project has been a transformative experience. Growing up in the South shaped his understanding of political and social issues, and this deeply influences his musical contributions. “Living it is what helps me embrace my feelings toward it,” Jack explains, noting that while he once didn’t see his music as a tool for activism, this project has opened his eyes to the potential impact his art can have.
His goal is to put his city, Jackson, in the spotlight. “I want Jackson to get the accolades and attention it deserves,” he says passionately. Jack hopes that the project will highlight the importance of strengthening the school system and inspire others to see the potential in his hometown. He also wants listeners to approach the music with an open heart, appreciating the message behind each track.
Autumn: Channeling Emotions for a Cause
For Autum, working on this project was a harmonious experience where individual creativity flourished in service of a collective goal. “It was cohesive,” she says. “There’s individualism, but everything meshed well for the cause.” Autum channeled her frustrations and joys into the songs she contributed, drawing on the sound and production to shape how she conveyed her emotions.
She sees the project as not only a creative endeavor but a political tool designed to bring attention to important issues. With hope and optimism, Autum believes the project can bring media attention to the city and inspire others to take action.
Ally: A Natural Approach to Spiritual Activism
Like Autum, Ally found immense joy in the collaborative process. Coming from a southern gospel background, she infused her music with the urban styles that inspire her. “We are natural beings living a spiritual experience,” she says, summarizing her approach to the project.
Ally sees her music as motivational, influenced by legends like Curtis Mayfield, who used his platform for political activism. She hopes that her contributions to this project will not only inspire but spark a movement. Through her art, Ally aims to remind people of their power to make a difference.
Henry: Vocalizing Change Through Local Action
Henry’s role in the project is rooted in his desire to inspire youth and encourage local action. “Stay vocal and act local,” he urges. He believes that real change starts with local elections and that everyone should show up and make their voice heard.
Henry’s focus is on using the energy and creativity of the youth to inspire a new generation of voters. He sees this project as an essential tool in shifting the way people, especially the younger generation, engage with politics and democracy.
Art as a Catalyst for Change
The overarching goal of this collective is to use art and music to drive political and social change. Through innovative content, diverse styles, and a shared passion for their city and community, Alexis, Jack, Autum, Ally, and Henry are creating more than just an album—they’re creating a movement.
By weaving together personal experiences, political aspirations, and a deep love for creativity, this project is breaking new ground. As Alexis points out, it’s about more than just music; it’s about engaging people in the democratic process and encouraging them to vote with purpose. With artists like these leading the charge, the future of democracy looks brighter, more vibrant, and much more creative.
